We get told it tastes like meat, hence we made it into a pie. Locally handmade wholemeal SA flour now wraps itself around a filling yet light meal. Served with a salad, medicinal magic.

Darlin’ Dal Meets a Sacred Grove… Then Makes a Pie.
It started with my 50th and the retreat I had organised to visit Sacred Grove in Strathalbyn.
A 5 star menu I created, including everything native, a guided tour by Edmund, didgeridoo and fantastic company.8 years later we are still talking about it.
Edmund the founder of Sacred Grove and I have developed a beautiful friendship and both sell our premium craftsmanship at the famous Adelaide Showground Farmers Market.
The Gourmet Bush Survivor Pie (local native ingredients from Sacred Grove) was created in my store on Grange Rd and now is in full production at a SA Bakery with SA wholemeal wheat and all hand-made and yes 100% plant-based! The favourite at ASFM!
Of course it could be sold in supermarkets yet she doesn’t belong in the hustle bustle of the bottom dollar, bit like the Darlin’ Dal’s. The hunt is now on to only supply connoisseur outlets/kitchens and restaurants.

What/Who Is Sacred Grove?
Edmund Gooden (bottom right), the founder of Sacred Grove, has long held a deep connection to the natural world. His love for nature began with birdwatching as a boy and evolved into significant work in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands during the 1990s and beyond.
During this time, he developed profound friendships, including with one Elder who, after years of working together, shared wisdom that would change the course of Edmund’s life: “Now that you understand the spirit of this plant, you must share it with the wider community, with the world.”
This moment set Edmund on a journey, and Sacred Grove was born from that inspiration, a place dedicated to cultivating and celebrating the beauty of unique plants like sandalwood, native pine, and especially one sacred desert plant.
From this vision, the Desert Survivor Range of products was created, with more exciting additions on the horizon. Edmund’s passion for offering these special plants to the world is a continuation of his commitment to the preservation of Anangu Pitjantjatjara culture and the natural heritage of the land.
At Sacred Grove, it is an honour to grow and promote Australia’s remarkable medicinal plants. We take pride in sharing something beautiful and meaningful from this land, helping people deepen their connection to Australia while fostering greater respect and care for this precious environment.
